Imagine you fall and break a tooth. In the recent past, that meant weeks of waiting, multiple appointments, and a temporary fix—often at a high cost. With SprintRay, established in 2014, that process drastically changes. The company's artificial-intelligence-driven 3D printers enable dentists to create custom dental appliances—ranging from dentures and retainers to dental models—in office, reducing wait times and improving patient care. A commitment to making dental care accessible, affordable, and sustainable in underserved parts of the world has earned the company ATD's 2025 TD for Good Award.

By addressing the root causes of inequity—whether it's a lack of infrastructure, limited resources, or insufficient training—SprintRay's efforts reflect its dedication to creating systemic change. The organization empowers local practitioners with the technology, tools, and training to provide effective, long-lasting dental care through partnerships with institutions such as Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, the Usain Bolt Foundation, and Muhimbili University. That has resulted in sustainable healthcare solutions across various countries, including the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Tanzania, Uganda, and the US.

Deployment and training

Through a blend of technology, education, and community engagement, SprintRay has created a scalable model that other organizations worldwide can adopt and adapt. Its initiatives have improved lives by enhancing local healthcare capabilities and ensuring that communities have the resources to sustain the advancements long term.

The company deploys 3D printers and materials, or resins, by either shipping them directly to locations worldwide or having team members transport them as checked luggage when traveling to deployment sites. That ensures a seamless setup, enabling practitioners to quickly integrate the technology and begin providing high-quality dental care.

The organization uses targeted training to give local practitioners the skills to deliver long-term care. Training covers digital workflows and 3D printing, equipping practitioners with the technical and practical expertise to operate independently. The approach enables practitioners to meet their communities' dental needs and reduce dependence on external resources.

SprintRay's emphasis on TD created a multiplier effect; as professionals master the technology, they can train others, expanding the reach of affordable care.

To accomplish that, the organization first deploys its own team to train local practitioners and university professors. The training programs incorporate a hybrid approach, combining in-person, on-the-ground training with a learn-by-doing apprentice methodology and e-learning resources. Dental experts, therefore, receive hands-on experience while having remote access to continuous education.

The length and structure of training vary based on participants' expertise and each region's specific needs. While SprintRay standardizes foundational training across all locations, it tailors additional specialized modules to local requirements, so practitioners can effectively integrate the digital dentistry solutions into their workflows. The flexible model maximizes accessibility, scalability, and long-term impact in each country.

After completing training, participants pass on their knowledge by educating others across their countries and expanding access to advanced dental technology. The local professionals are integral in helping to spread the skills and expertise necessary to continue the transformation of dental care in their communities. The process ensures that the impact of SprintRay's education and technology is sustainable and reaches far beyond initial training efforts. The company reports that the outreach has resulted in thousands of people receiving low- and no-cost quality care worldwide.

SprintRay University

The company's corporate university is dedicated to empowering dental professionals by providing high-quality education that facilitates the adoption of digital dentistry. Through a mix of in-person, virtual, and on-demand training, SprintRay equips practitioners with the skills to implement advanced workflows such as same-day prosthetics, intraoral scanning, and 3D printing. By offering structured learning opportunities, the university prepares dental teams to deliver efficient, high-quality patient care while staying at the forefront of technological advancements.

To keep the dental community informed on the latest innovations, the university offers free, one-hour continuing education webinars featuring industry leaders. The sessions cover a wide range of topics, from foundational digital workflows to advanced 3D printing applications, providing practitioners with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance their practice. Attendees can also earn continuing education credits, making it a convenient and valuable resource for ongoing professional development.

Complementing formal educational programs, SprintRay's CEO and cofounder, Amir Mansouri, offers additional resources through his YouTube channel. The channel provides an exclusive glimpse into the day in the life of a CEO, sharing insights into digital dentistry and fostering a global community of dental professionals. Each episode features Mansouri interviewing an industry expert to promote knowledge exchange, empowering practitioners to stay at the forefront of technological advancements. SprintRay's combined efforts have contributed to the dental profession evolving alongside emerging technologies, setting the stage for broader healthcare transformation.

Scope and expansion

Last year alone, more than 9,000 professionals worldwide received training through the company's community outreach initiatives. Beyond that, more than 50,000 dental professionals globally use the organization's technologies daily, integrating advanced 3D printing into their practices to improve patient care and expand access to high-quality dental solutions.

The company plans to expand its initiative to more regions in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. Future efforts include increasing mobile dental units; enhancing SprintRay University training; strengthening partnerships with nongovernmental organizations and universities; and developing new, AI-driven workflows.

"SprintRay's initiatives reflect its unwavering commitment to making high-quality dental care more accessible worldwide," says company President Erich Kreidler.
