Fifth Third Bank is partnering with the NAACP to launch a training program aimed at upskilling community members with career literacy competences. Launching in Detroit, Michigan; Tampa, Florida; and Orlando, Florida, the workforce development program will target under- and unemployed individuals in local communities. The goal is to train more than 100,000 people across the financial services firm's 10-state footprint by 2020 with partnerships at the national, regional, state, and local levels.
"We know that this program will ultimately equip individuals with the tools that they will need to contend with others in today's competitive job landscape," says Wendell Anthony, member of the NAACP National Board of Directors, in a written statement.
Through the program, participants will have the opportunity to attend in-person workshops (depending on what is offered at specific locations) and to participate in multimedia training courses.
Fifth Third joins a growing list of businesses working within communities to prepare workers for current and future jobs. What's more, Byna Elliott, senior vice president and chief corporate community and economic development officer for Fifth Third, says she believes the program can help establish overall economic stability for the communities the bank serves.
