The job market is tough. So much so that job seekers are turning to TikTok for the latest tips on navigating the market and landing a new role. Through the third quarter of 2024, more than 100,000 videos are under #CareerTok.
That hashtag features creators who share career lessons such as sending effective emails, having productive meetings with a supervisor, negotiating a higher salary, and handling conflict at work. A 2023 EduBirdie study found that 70 percent of Gen Zers—individuals born between 1997 and 2012—used TikTok for career advice. Nineteen percent of those respondents said they use TikTok as their primary source for career advice.
The advantages of using the video app to find career advice are that it's fast and grants users access to expert advice for free.
Career advice on TikTok has become so popular that the platform rolled out its inaugural TikTok LIVE Careers Week in August in partnership with Indeed. The event, which the technology platform launched to get young people excited about their future careers, garnered more than 369,000 viewers.
