Well-designed virtual experiences, supported by well-designed materials, will lead to the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills on the job, which ultimately positively affects organizational results.

An effective instructional design process follows a system of assessing needs, designing a process, developing materials, and evaluating effectiveness. Instructional design requires the analysis and selection of the most appropriate strategies, methodologies, and technologies to maximize the learning experience and knowledge transfer.

Aligned to the Instructional Design Capability of the Talent Development Capability Model, this instructional design certificate program will provide you with more than 20 ATD–exclusive tools and templates and the opportunity to practice using them on a flexible, authentic learning project.

First complete 11 courses on individual aspects of instructional design. Each course aligns to knowledge and skill statements in the Talent Development Body of Knowledge. After finishing these courses, complete your learning experience with a personalized capstone that deeply covers instructional design, focusing on virtual learning experiences, and provides an opportunity to demonstrate your new skills on a learning project.

Your learning project provides opportunities to practice writing effective learning objectives and create an outline for a four-hour virtual learning event. Plus, you will personalize your learning project by selecting two additional items that best meet your learning and performance needs. Choose from planning a needs assessment, creating virtual presentation materials, designing a sample assessment, and reviewing evaluation data.
