Escape room games are a hot topic in L&D for team building and educational experiences—but can they be effective training activities? Escape room games traditionally are in-person experiences; however, virtual escape room games have catapulted into popularity. About a year ago, I used e-learning development software to create the Leadership Escape Game as part of my dissertation, with the goal of determining whether a digital escape room game could be effective in delivering leadership training. The game leveraged an existing leadership training program, with the owner's permission, and escape room game mechanics facilitated the content delivery and offered opportunities for players to practice skills.
