Not too long ago, mixed reality training tools, including virtual reality and augmented reality (VR and AR, respectively), were considered futuristic and out of reach for all but the most well-funded schools and training grounds. After all, simulation labs can be expensive to build and maintain. However, large and small healthcare training organizations that would previously have dismissed AR as an unattainable luxury are now contemplating how to integrate it into their existing programs as an operational necessity.
