Enterprise Holdings has a deep-seated culture of leadership development and promotion from within. Since its founding nearly 60 years ago by St. Louis native Jack Taylor, who died this year at the age of 94, the company has had only three CEOs. Senior leaders are long-tenured: The average length of service for vice presidents and above is 20 years. Most notably, a cornerstone principle is that the company will not fill operational leadership roles from outside the organization. These elements have strong implications for recruitment and retention, training and development, knowledge management and transfer, and succession planning, as well as for setting company strategy.
