The Skills Obsession

Friday, October 1, 2021

Upskilling, reskilling, and newskilling—subjects that have long been of interest to L&D practitioners—have recently become mainstream hot topics. However, this pod-cast from RedThread Research is geared toward those in the field. Subject matter experts provide listeners with beyond-the-basics dialogue on L&D topics such as skills debt and learning frameworks.

In the "The Price of Skills Debt" episode, special guest Matthew Daniel, principal consultant at Guild Education, explains skills debt and shares why L&D's impact is diminishing in a time where it's never mattered more. "We in L&D may be robbing our organizations of some of the greatest potential and talent, because they sit in the front line, and they're nonexempt employees, and so they just don't get access to content or the systems or the programs or the mentoring or the class," Daniel contends.

In another episode,"The Realities of Building a Tech-Enabled Skills Framework," Madhura Chakrabarti, global head of people analytics at Syngenta, discusses challenges encountered when she implemented a cross-company skills framework and why she believes there's no separating people analytics from the employee experience.
