Word Wiz: Web Squared

The term "web squared" came into the lexicon at the same time as "web 2.0"—when applications arose that could supplement our reality with virtual data (think GPS systems or restaurant review apps). "Where the Web Squared world gets really interesting ... is when applications use all the senses of a device, coordinating them much like the human brain coordinates our senses, to draw conclusions that would be difficult with one sense alone," wrote technologists Tim O'Reilly and Jennifer Pahlka in a 2009 article for Forbes. Those "senses" involve data derived from sources such as geolocation or speech recognition technology.
