Word Wiz: Workation

Thursday, January 2, 2020

This hot new trend is gripping the millennial generation. As its name suggests, a workation involves doing work while on a vacation. A workation can enable you to enjoy the thrill of exploring a new country (because it's not always easy to take an extended vacation), without sacrificing your job productivity.

Some negative views on the concept exist, but it can also elicit great results when structured in the right manner. Immersing yourself in a new environment, as opposed to an office, can be inspiring—and it could even result in higher-quality work. Maybe that's why many startup founders take advantage of them.

With that said, it's important to be smart about a workation. Pick a nice location, have a clear plan in place, and ensure that you will have the ability to carry out essential work activities. Solid internet connection is essential, as is the safety of the environment. Stick to a script, because there are elevated temptations when you work outside the office.

A workation gives you an opportunity to have the best of both worlds: work and leisure. Our lifetimes are finite, so why not knock out two birds with one stone?
