In the federal civil service, an official is not permitted to appoint, employ, promote, or advocate the appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement of any individual who is a relative. In other words, nepotism is prohibited. Unfortunately, a recent report from the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) uncovered multiple examples of the practice taking place.
