Step Two: Convince Your Boss

Be prepared to present the benefits of membership in a clear and concise manner. This can help to alleviate any concerns or objections. Choose a weekly check-in, goal-setting session, or another appropriate time to have the conversation.

Here are some useful talking points:

  • Highlight how your organization is always striving to improve your training and development initiatives, and emphasize how you believe that ATD could provide your organization with valuable resources and connections to help you achieve your goals.

  • Discuss why you were drawn to ATD. Focus on the wealth of resources, including tools, templates, articles, research reports, and best practice guides.

  • Talk about how you think it would be beneficial to connect with other professionals in the industry who are facing similar challenges and can offer insights and solutions.

  • Underscore that joining ATD requires an investment, but you believe that the benefits will outweigh the cost. As a member, you would have access to exclusive discounts on courses, conferences, and products that could help your organization save money in the long run.

Step Three: Follow Up

Follow up your conversation about joining ATD by reviewing what drew you to membership. You might reiterate the association's commitment to providing resources and connections to help organizations improve their training and development initiatives. Underscore how your organization is always striving to improve your practices and stay ahead of industry trends, and how you believe that ATD could provide you with valuable support in achieving those goals.
