Sgt. Buster Bakke (a white man) eased his police cruiser to the curb. Fresh, fed, and wide awake, Buster let the engine idle, waiting for his partner to emerge from his mid-city apartment. As the minutes passed, Buster's patience dwindled. After about five minutes, Sgt. Fred D. Katt (a person of color) emerged from his front door, rubbing his eyes, buttoning his coat, and slowly making his way over to his partner. As Fred slid into the front seat, he mumbled, "Hey, man, stop by 7-11, I need some coffee." Buster, fit to be tied by now, cut loose with a "You people! When will you ever get your act together?"
