At the end of 2014, I officially declared my independence from working as an internal learning and development practitioner. Having spent the last 12 years going from job to job and place to place, I found myself living that age-old definition of insanity: falling into the same type of learning and leadership development roles without much in the way of career satisfaction or progression. I reached middle age combined with being mid-career, intersecting with hitting my tolerance limit for internal corporate machinations, and am now taking that proverbial leap of faith. While not a decision to make lightly by any means, here are some tips and key considerations if you’re thinking of doing the same.
