From a young age we are encouraged to be flexible. Remember the Presidential Physical Fitness Test, where the sit and reach—proving you could touch your toes—was a make-or-break test? We were also taught to remain open when starting a new sport or activity to find out what role was right for us. As we grow old, flexibility becomes a little more complex—moving across the country, solving departmental problems, working from home during a pandemic while homeschooling while fighting injustices, and more.
