Considering More Flexible Schedules

Monday, July 6, 2020

The pandemic has dramatically changed the way we work, and business leaders are struggling to understand what the new normal will look like. One of the main questions centers on scheduling. How can organizations build environments that make room for safety measures while also maintaining productivity? How can nonstandard shifts affect workplace culture? These are big questions that need to be answered. As a starting point, consider how the organization's scheduling practices affect employees’ effectiveness and well-being then try to understand how the organization can better align its scheduling processes with the needs and desires of the employees. Changes have been significant due to the pandemic—and employees' life circumstances will dictate how and when they can put in the most professional effort. Consider the implications of giving employees more control over their schedules and seek to balance the needs of the organization with the needs of employees. Finding a balance between the two in a more organic way will lead to greater organizational success.
