In 2021 and Beyond, Flexibility Will Be King

Thursday, January 14, 2021

Last year our understanding of work was shaken to the core by the global health crisis. While many hope that 2021 will bring with it a return to life as usual in the prepandemic days, it’s safe to say that the cat is out of the preverbal bag in some regards. For one, flexibility has been prioritized. And while the pandemic created a need for flexibility regarding to where employees would perform their duties, experts think the next wave of flexibility will have to do with when employees are expected to work. Although it may be difficult to give up this level of control, the results don’t lie. According to a recent survey from ReimagineHR, organizations with a standard 40-hour work week only recognized 36 percent of employees as “high performers.” Compare that to the organizations who felt 55 percent of their employees were rock stars and that didn’t dictate where, when, or how much their employees worked. In the future, it’s realistic to think that employees will be measured only by their output rather than on fulfilling an arbitrary, regimented schedule.
