No Secret to Retention

Friday, August 7, 2015

While complicated metrics and costly programs and software solutions can help boost employee retention levels, the true secret to retention isn’t really a secret at all. The key to keeping employees on board is maintaining happy, respectful relationships between co-workers. There’s no secret formula for creating these relationships—the manager’s job is to foster an environment where employees can create them on their own. In order to do that, first managers must care. They should invest time and attention in their employees. Communicate with them. Listen to their feedback and respond appropriately. Managers must also believe in their employees and in the mission of their company. They must demonstrate this belief in their attitudes and day-to-day job functions. Additionally, managers should think about giving more than they ask. They must demonstrate that they’ve put effort into their decisions, and that they appreciate the same from their employees.
