Succession Planning: Preparing Organizations for the Future
Succession planning is the process organizations use to identify key positions, candidates, and employees needed to meet the short- and long-term challenges inherent in conducting operations. ATD last surveyed talent development professionals on their organizations’ succession planning efforts in 2018. Since then, changes brought about by workforce shifts and the subsequent upheaval in the labor market have made the need for succession planning even more vital. Succession Planning: Preparing Organizations for the Future draws on a sample of 243 organizations to investigate key questions around succession planning, provide benchmarking data, and highlight best practices. To add context to the findings and make these results more actionable, this report provides examples and insights from other organizations and professionals, as well as offering comparisons to findings from the 2018 report where appropriate.
