Lance Legree

Kevin Lange is a learning consultant with Capital One. Since 2005, he has worked as a facilitator, instructional designer, project and program manager, and learning strategist within academic and Fortune 500 and Fortune Global 500 companies such as Citi, Expedia, American Express, and Sony. Lange holds bachelor’s degrees in radio-television and speech communication from Southern Illinois University, an MBA from Indiana State University, and an MEd in educational technology from University of Florida.

For almost 20 years, David Lange has pursued his curiosity about the world and how people lead in a global environment. He returns to TMC, bringing this curiosity and passion to his work as a global leadership strategist, trainer, and advisor. David’s primary areas of focus are global leadership strategy, global leadership program development, and customized talent development initiatives around the “global workplace of the future.”  With clients in every part of the world, David has served American Express, Novartis, Nestlé, Novo Nordisk, Microsoft, Gap Inc., Campbell Soup Co., MOL Hungarian Oil Co., Corning, Dow Chemical, Pfizer, Honeywell, MasterCard Worldwide, Air Products, Thomson Reuters, Deutsche Telekom, DPDHL, Johnson & Johnson, Boston Consulting Group, Imerys, Bunge, and MetLife, among others. David has specific experience in Europe, with a concentration on Central and Eastern Europe. He has also spent significant time in Africa in recent years, where he focused on helping organizations prepare for the future growth of the region by driving change management initiatives across Francophone and Anglophone countries. In 2012-2013 he was resident in Budapest, Hungary, renewing his ties with and knowledge of the region.  Prior to rejoining TMC, David worked as a Partner with Pivot Leadership and as the Owner/Founder of Aventine Associates. Previous experience also includes McKinsey and Company (Budapest, Hungary); Egon Zehnder International (Budapest, Hungary; Washington, DC; Atlanta, GA); and Russell Reynolds Associates (Atlanta, GA). In his previous roles at TMC he was part of the management team that led the sale of the company to Berlitz, Inc. in April 2008, while also serving as a facilitator, client account manager, and content designer.  David has a degree in international relations from the University of Virginia and an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. He is fluent in Hungarian, French, and German, in addition to his native English. When not indulging in the occasional gig with his longtime rock and roll cover band, he lives in Pennington, NJ with his wife Zsófia and their three children.

Today, we’re offering a first glance at some exciting research that we’re releasing in March 2015. ATD Research and the Institute for Corporate Productivity (i4cp) have partnered on a soon-to-be-published new project on the state of instructional design (ID) in organizations. Introducing Instructional Design Now: A New Age of Learning and Beyond It’s certainly an exciting time to be an instructional designer. The field of instructional design (ID) incorporates a rapidly growing and changing array of learning strategies, tools, and approaches into training experiences that appeal to today’s workers while meeting their complex learning needs. ATD and i4cp’s latest report will provide a current snapshot of ID in organizations, as well as explore the most pressing challenges faced by instructional designers. The study’s findings are based on a survey of 1,120 ID professionals. The ID Community Of the survey participants, who practice in organizations from all industry sectors, 44 percent held a formal undergraduate or graduate degree in ID or a related field. About a sixth had an ID certification, with ATD’s Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) being the most popular. Both formal degree programs and certifications in ID tend to be relatively new, and these rates will likely increase in the future. ID Relies on Traditional Approaches and New TechnologiesToday’s ID professionals have a stunningly vast and ever-changing selection of tools, technologies and approaches available to them. Although this can also be overwhelming and it can be difficult to keep up with current technologies, one instructional designer in state government pointed out, “so many tools and resources and allow for better design and greater creativity.” Instructional designers leverage time-tested approaches, as well as newer technology, to deliver learning in organizations. The most frequently-used tool or approach is traditional classroom learning, which nine out of 10 organizations rely on to a considerable extent.  In addition, assessments, which are administered to assess skills, training needs, and learning progress, are also heavily used. Survey respondents have also embraced learning management systems (LMSs), a technology that gathers, manages, and reports information on organizational learning efforts. ID Isn’t as Effective as It Could Be One concerning finding from the research was that only about half of surveyed ID professionals reported feeling that their ID efforts are highly effective in helping to meet business objectives. Even more troubling, less than four in 10 thought that their ID efforts are effective in meeting learning needs.   Some insights into why ID isn’t reaching its full potential also emerged from the survey responses. Participants expressed challenges in connecting with senior leadership and convincing them that ID was important, and many reported a lack of internal staff with the needed design competencies. Learn More The full report will be available in March at www.td.org/idreport. A First Glance at Instructional Design Now

Imani Mance, Director of Supply Chain Learning at The Home Depot, has spent most of her career focused on improving business outcomes through people focused leadership and talent development. Imani has a unique background that includes information technology, consulting, web and graphic design, human resources, instructional design and learning strategy. She leverages this experience to champion frictionless learning solutions that seamlessly integrate into the dynamic working environment of employees today. Imani holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from Spelman College and a master's degree in instructional technology from Georgia State University.

She has worked with many industries, including media, technology, entertainment, energy, international development, and financial services. Before entering the organizational development field, she worked in film and music production, and as a fundraiser and event producer for the National Center for Lesbian Rights.Jessica believes that big thinking, joy, meaning, and intimate connection fuels business growth, and that careers can be wildly successful, fun, and healthy. She works with leaders to identify the people practices that will have the most impact on the organization’s culture, team effectiveness, and business growth. Jessica has a master’s degree in organizational psychology from Columbia University and a bachelor of arts in sociology from Oberlin College. Some of her favorite things are meandering Brooklyn neighborhoods, talking to strangers, grocery shopping, dance breaks, and floating.
