The Influence of L&D on the Employee Perception and Attitude

Published: Tuesday, February 20, 2024

Several studies have investigated the influence of training on employee perception, cognition, and attitude. Organizations benefit from the outcomes that improve employee productivity and performance. The trained employee perception of the outcomes is positive in comparison to the employees who didn’t, which means the more the employees are trained, the more understanding of training activity outcomes. (Ibenu, 2016).

In recent years, employee performance and productivity are characterized by training and development in business and organizations. Smart organizations; by their role; endeavor the best place in the market to get the highest financial benefits, as well as the highest reputation.

Therefore, the organizations lean to get into the market competitions to keep their business at the highest level of quality, and to meet the international standards in each field, taking into consideration the fast pace of technological innovations. “Technological factors include advances, skills, and process changes and can affect the ways that organizations do work as well as how they compete in the market” (ATD, 2017).

Likewise, (Neyestani, 2014) mentioned in his book “According to most studies, a successful training and education program would create more favorable employee attitudes and loyalty, and help employees in their personal development and advancement.”

The human capital factor plays a major role in the organizations to act in the desired performance, therefore organizations realized the urgency of caring for human assets via calibrating the best training solutions as a majority to their development. There is a dramatic increase in the organization’s training and development  over the past few years, which is reflected in the organization’s training and development expenditure. According to (Association for Talent Development (ATD), 2018) “This is the sixth year in a row that has seen an increase in direct learning expenditure. Organizations spent $1,296 per employee on learning in 2017. This represents a 1.7 percent increase from 2016 when the average spends per employee was $1,273”.

Similarly, Organizations that understand the importance of learning or training and development are the most organizations that benefit from employee performance, which is reflected in their performance, revenue, and success. According to (Harvard Business School, 2009, p. 4) “Developing your employee is critical to your organization's success”.

Organizations should find out the most suitable interventions to improve employee perception and attitude, taking into consideration the technological  aspects that could enhance the solutions delivered. These interventions are almost technological training solutions and strategies designed to adjust the employee perception as well as attitude within the organization, therefore the employees would have more job satisfaction and judgment. According to (Cole, 2002, p.340) attitude is “A predisposition in an individual to make certain kinds of judgments about external events and other people’s behavior, usually based on deeply-held values.”

(CIPD, Nov 2021) discussed the reasons behind employee retention and detailed awesome practices organizations should consider such as enabling career development and progression by "Maximize opportunities for employees to develop skills and careers. It’s also important to understand and manage people’s career expectations. Where promotions are not feasible, look for sideways moves that allow employees to gain different development experiences."

Eventually, the learning and development industry becomes an urgent and critical role in organizations. Furthermore, nowadays, the concept of learning organization becomes a must. Simply, most organizations watch out for their employee's performance under the umbrella of learning and development, the most organizations easily get the peak of performance in all dimensions and could take the highest place in the business market.
