How do you measure success in a leader?

Folks, 

I am experiencing a #Thinking Out Loud moment.  I need your perspectives to refine my process. Here it goes. 

How do you measure success in a leader? Is it dependent on the success of her/his followers? Or, is it confined to the leader's own style/philosophy of leading?

Hi Somya, in an attempt to answer your inquiry, "how much does a leader's team contribute toward the success of a leadership" here are my thoughts. The success of a leader or the leadership of an organization is measured by the organization's capability of meeting its objectives and goals. The second measure of success is the growth of a leader's followers to become leaders in their own right. As my first post mentions a leader's job is getting work done through others and developing their team.

Hello Somya, it really depends on what is expected of the leader. I assume you are referring to a leader who has direct followers who are required to complete assigned tasks which help their organization to succeed.
In my opinion, when you boil it down to the truly fundamental expectations of any leader of others there are two objectives:
1. Getting work done through others, and
2. The continuous development of their followers.
Often times organizations only focus on #1.
