Internet access on production floor?

What is your best guess of prevalence of internet access (even limited to specific websites) on a manufacturing production floor? Is it common practice to provide computers with zero internet access?

Hi Tennille. Just for clarification sake, are you thinking about computers available for individual associates or computers for public (all associate) use. In my experience, it is quite common not to have internet access on the floor. I believe the reason is just to protect processes/security reasons. But, if there is a computer w/ internet access available, it would be in a central area/hub that the user would need to go to in order to access. And even then, its an intranet and not internet.

Hi Erin,
We have computers available at work benches, so it's a hybrid (shared computers, but only between a few people each). It seems odd to me to have less internet in a manufacturing setting than in financial sector for security reasons - it's not like we work in the Wonka factory =D Thank you for your input!
