Just like the rest of the work world, talent development professionals will be affected by automation"—that's one of the conclusions Stephen Newman and Paula Ketter reach in their cover story. Should you be concerned by that finding? Not if you're preparing.

According to the ATD Research report The Future of Work, "While it is difficult to predict the extent to which these changes will influence organizations across all industries, there is a clear need for talent development leaders to consider how their organization will be affected and start making plans to prepare their workforce."

Automation and other emerging technologies will not only change how you do your job but also affect the jobs of the employees for whom you design and deliver training and development programs. So, upskilling and reskilling are must-have initiatives that all companies should be establishing for their employees—the talent development function included.

We all know that change is inevitable. Thinking future-forward will enable you to be ready for what's to come.
