Everyone knows Facebook is for personal use and LinkedIn is for professional use, right? Well, that might be changing soon. Social media giant Facebook is looking to engage its users in a more business-oriented way by offering mentorships through the site’s Groups channel. In an interesting move, Facebook is taking a novel approach, namely by not intervening using an algorithm. The process will be manual and rely on administrators' expertise within their communities as well as the qualifications of group members. This type of thing has been happening organically for a while, but Facebook will now provide a layer of tools to manage potential mentees and mentors to make the right pairings. “One of the challenges is that if you have an extremely large group, it can take a lot of admins to match people,” says Allison Esposito, an administrator of the Tech Ladies Facebook group. “The mentorship tool helps us do that by making targeted and meaningful introductions in our community.”
