Many Companies Still Underestimate the Importance of Onboarding
Monday, May 15, 2017

Potential employees have one chance to impress hiring managers, and employers have one shot to get onboarding right. If done correctly, onboarding will set an employee up for a long career of success, but if done poorly, it can drag an entire organization down. Unfortunately, not many organizations are hearing this message. According to a new study from CareerBuilder, only 36 percent of organizations have structured onboarding processes in place, which leads to some pretty sobering stats. Specifically, 16 percent of HR managers said their organization’s lack of codified onboarding practices lowered their company’s overall productivity, 14 percent said it brings in greater inefficiencies, and 12 percent said it was to blame for higher rates of turnover. "While onboarding is a critical component of setting new employees up for success from day one, this study shows some companies are neglecting fundamentals in the onboarding process—and running into serious consequences that can impact the bottom line," Rosemary Haefner, chief human resources officer at CareerBuilder, said in a statement.
