New Job Board Expands Hiring Pool

Thursday, September 14, 2017

Attracting the right entry-level talent is difficult enough, but when we start talking about highly specialized or C-level jobs, the task becomes exponentially more difficult. Often these positions are head-hunted out, or opportunities are shared by word of mouth. However, a new service is looking to upend those traditional methods. When Joe Meyer sold his mapping startup HotStop, recruiters started to contact him, but he wasn’t really interested in these positions. “I passed on 99 out of 100,” he says. “But what happens to those 99?” He decided to share them with his personal network, building an informal job board catering to high-level professionals. The hope was that these professionals would share their “unwanted” jobs as well, revealing a wealth of “hidden” job opportunities. This site has since evolved into ExecThread, where members gain points for sharing job opportunities, and job seekers use their points to see details about available positions. “We’re just equipping professionals with the information that is extremely hard to get on their own,” Meyer says. Over the past two years, the site has grown by word-of-mouth to include 15,000 high-caliber members, and more than 7,000 available positions have been discussed.
