Overtime Exemptions Are Changing. Don’t Get Caught by Surprise

Earlier this year, the Department of Labor announced changes to overtime pay exemptions. Starting January 1, 2020, the minimum salary needed to be ineligible for overtime pay will be $646 per week or $35,568 per year. Anyone earning less must be paid overtime if they work more than 40 hours in one week. While this is a general rule of thumb, there are some notable exceptions to this rule. Salary is just one element of the exemption qualifications. Some jobs qualify an employee regardless of pay.
