Prioritizing Well-Being in a Post-COVID World

The global health crisis has made clear exactly how important employee well-being is to overall organizational success. No longer are wellness programs a nice perk or a feel-good initiative—these are mission-critical programs with real-world, measurable outcomes. While not everything should be about dollars and cents, research does show that employee well-being has a significant impact on productivity and profits. Employees who are satisfied with their quality of life outperform their peers by 31 percent, outsell them by 37 percent, and are 19 percent more accurate in their tasks. To improve employee well-being at an organizational level, though, can be a difficult task, particularly during this time of global uncertainty. Make sure you have a clearly defined pandemic plan in place and stress the importance of flexibility during this time of upheaval. Make it clear that it’s fine to feel negative emotions and normalize humanity in the workplace. Provide support for employees who are struggling and training for team leaders to recognize and respond to employees who need help.
