Samsung Implements VR Training Program

Sunday, June 19, 2016

Samsung is at the cutting edge of employee training. The company has recently employed virtual reality (VR) equipment to train workers. The hope is that these systems will make training on the company’s production lines more efficient and less costly. The company first started using VR systems in its consumer electronics division, but it expects to expand the program to other departments, including IT and mobile communications. Under the new VR training program, an employee uses a headset and holds a specially designed utensil to work through manufacturing processes, such as using a screwdriver to tighten a screw on an air conditioner. The cyber training “is not exactly the same as the conventional training, but it allows the trainees to physically get used to the most important steps of the manufacturing process,” said Lee Kye-bok, director at the Samsung Electronics air conditioning manufacturing team. “Currently, the CE division has installed 10 virtual reality training systems and uses them to train new employees.”
