Singapore Emphasizes Training

Monday, March 30, 2015

More than 91 percent of workers in Singapore want to refresh their skills every few years to make them more desirable to employers. This is the highest number on record, according to Randstad, with Singapore leading 34 other countries. Two-thirds of workers in Singapore also said they believed their newly acquired skills would benefit them for their entire career. Michael Smith, Randstad’s Singapore director, said the figures show the Singaporean workforce recognizes the importance of keeping their skills up to date and relevant. "It is increasingly vital for employees to continuously look at ways they can improve their existing skills or gain new expertise,” he said. “This will not only enable them to advance their careers amid a fast-changing business landscape, but also contribute to workplace productivity." The research also showed 94 percent of the Singapore workforce believes in lifelong learning, and believes that new skills can be required regardless of age.
