Work-Life Integration

Saturday, October 31, 2015

Years ago, the idea of work-life balance became paramount in the minds of business leaders. The conventional wisdom was that employees are happiest when work stays at work so that personal and family interests can be focused on at home. However, this idea is beginning to evolve. Many companies are now thinking about the concept of work-life integration, where an employee’s personal and professional lives intermingle. This doesn’t mean that managers should expect workers to devote 100 percent of their time to work, or that employees should be able to use company time to pursue personal interests, but rather that an employee's personal and professional lives should be given space to interact with and complement each other. One of the easiest ways to do this is to provide flexible work hours. For companies looking to attract the next generation of workers, this is becoming increasingly important. Nearly 90 percent of Millennials say they want a company culture that allows their working and personal lives to blend together.
