Encourage Telecommuters to Get Out of the House

Wednesday, June 22, 2016

As the technologies that enable employees to work remotely grow more advanced, more and more companies are allowing workers to perform their jobs off-site. There are several benefits of doing this, both for the employee and the employer. According to recent studies from the University of Sheffield, 48 percent of workers say they "are happier when they can work from home," and 32 percent say they think they are more productive when they do. Additionally, 60 percent of workers say they would love to work from home if given the opportunity. But sometimes the idea of working from home is more appealing than the reality. Often the motivation to get out of bed and go to the home workspace is more difficult than expected, and the temptations of putting work off to deal with a distraction are sometimes too tough to resist. The solution? Employees should work from somewhere else. Working from a coffee shop or a favorite café can boost focus. Meanwhile, social interaction and sunlight are important factors in productivity and mental well-being. Becoming too isolated in a home office can quickly dampen productivity.
