San Antonio Metro Area Most Engaged in the Country

Saturday, October 10, 2015

According to a recent Gallup poll, the San Antonio-New Braunfels area leads the United States in levels of employee engagement, with 38.1 percent of its workforce declaring they feel engaged at their jobs. Of the ranked metropolitan statistical areas, San Antonio was followed by Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, California, coming in at 37.6 percent and 36.8 percent, respectively. On the other hand, Buffalo-Cheektowaga-Niagara Falls, New York, ranked the lowest, with 23.5 percent of employees engaged, followed by San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, California, and Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, Minnesota, ranking at 24.7 percent and 24.9 percent, respectively. And the bad news doesn’t end there for Buffalo. Not only did it have the lowest levels of engagement, but it also suffers from the highest levels of actively disengaged employees in the country. Gallup has found that disengagement can be tied to a variety of factors, and can sometimes be tied to the local economy. Management, however, seems to be the biggest factor dictating engagement levels. Research shows that managers account for about 70 percent of the variance in employee engagement rankings.
