Tech Tools, Values Are Stumbling Blocks to Engagement

Monday, October 17, 2016

According to a recent study from Oracle and Kantar TNS, an organization's digital tools, leadership, and values are the key drivers of employee engagement. However, many companies are not providing employees with the technological tools necessary to get their jobs done. The study, which collected data from nearly 5,000 employees across 20 countries, found that only 44 percent of employees believe their organization uses the latest technologies to help them effectively perform their duties. This means that more than half of employees think they don't have the tech they need to be fully effective at their jobs. Additionally, only 38 percent of employees said their company supports causes and upholds values that are important to them. "What we found is employees want the same modern digital technology that they are accustomed to at home in the workplace, accessible leadership, and a strong company culture that aligns with their personal values—often trumping monetary compensation," said Gretchen Alarcon, group vice president of HCM product strategy at Oracle. "These factors are all influencing the degree employees feel engaged and committed to a company."
