In businesses of all sizes, there are moments where one single decision can mean organizational life or death. Stakes can get enormously high, with careers and livelihoods hanging in the balance. When managers and senior leaders are faced with such decisions, some may panic, and others may thrive, depending on their preparation and mental fortitude. First, when faced with such a critical decision, managers should ask themselves which choice best lines up with the organization’s original vision. Generally speaking, the closer a decision is to the core values of a business, the better that decision will be. Second, managers should ask themselves if the decision aligns with their own vision for the company. Third, they should look at the potential consequences of the decision, both positive and negative.
