Tips for More Effective Training

Monday, January 11, 2016

In today’s business environment, it’s rare that an employee stays with the same company for more than a couple of years. However, turnover is costly when it comes to hiring a replacement. One of the best ways to combat turnover is through employee training. In technical fields especially, one of the biggest issues employees face is the belief that they are inadequately prepared to handle their tasks. But training takes time and resources, so how can managers ensure that employees will get the most out of their sessions? One way is by allowing employees to choose their training topics. This ensures that they will be invested in the session and pay close attention to materials. Another way is to ensure that training programs are continuous. Employers often require an incoming employee to contend with a large amount of training, and then after the onboarding process is over, that employee rarely returns to it. By developing a culture of learning, employees will be continuously developing their job skills throughout their careers.
