Tips for Virtual Training

Tuesday, December 1, 2015

As technology advances and more employees go remote, online training has become a valuable resource for many companies, often overtaking traditional instruction methods. A recent survey found that more than 60 percent of students believe online learning provides them with the opportunity to receive instruction without adjusting their current work schedules, saving a considerable amount of time and money for both the employee and employer. However, there are several key elements to keep in mind when designing an online training course. First, it’s very easy for a trainee to lose focus during an online training session. Training presentations should be smooth and nimble, include multimedia elements, and not rely too heavily on text. Two-way communication is also important. The average worker will lose interest during an uninterrupted online lecture, so it’s important that trainees have the opportunity to voice questions, concerns, or suggestions. Managers should also pay attention to the learning environment. Employees all have preferred methods of consuming media, so it’s important that training sessions be compatible across numerous devices.
