Mobile Tech Boosts Productivity, Engagement

Friday, April 29, 2016

There is a clear link between mobile working environments and an increase in employee productivity and engagement. According to the global firm Economist Intelligence Unit, 60 percent of employees say mobile technology has helped them become more productive in their roles, and 40 percent say it has helped them think more creatively. One of the reasons for this, the survey found, was the greater availability of information that mobile devices affords. More than 40 percent of respondents said their ability to access information quickly and easily has had a positive impact on their levels of productivity. However, this doesn’t mean organizations should charge headlong into the mobile workforce space. "Without careful planning, IT could face some pitfalls. The first is around corporate security. Additionally, businesses and CIOs need to be clear on acceptable use policies that accompany this newfound freedom of the mobile workforce," said Chris Kozup, vice president of marketing for Aruba, the sponsor of the study. "Many companies have well-ingrained systems of measurement—think performance management—tied to the old guard of fixed working. In other words, management systems must adapt to the new style of working or risk a high level of conflict within the organization."
