Keeping Employees Retained in the New Year

Tuesday, January 3, 2017

The New Year brings with it new opportunities and possibilities. While this is a positive notion for most, those tasked with retaining employees might not find the prospect so cheery. To make sure employees remain happy at their current positions and don’t seek employment elsewhere in 2017, there are several things managers should pay particular attention to. For one, the way employees think about compensation is changing. Many employers believe the outdated idea that pay doesn’t really matter. Today, compensation matters more than ever. Salaries are no longer a secret, and workers aren’t embarrassed to share what they are making with their colleagues. To retain talent, employers must make sure their pay ranges remain competitive. Additionally, it’s important to update the job responsibilities of top talent. Managers should take a close inventory of the job descriptions of their top performers and consider mixing things up to keep top talent challenged. Smart people become bored if their jobs are repetitive, so consider offering new rewarding projects to the best employees.
