Its purpose is to ensure that the content is accurate, clear, appropriate for the audience, and aligned with organizational standards.  When it comes to learning, the stakes are high. Quality assurance for AI content must also ensure that content is instructionally sound, and meets learning objectives and organizational needs.

At the end of this workshop, you will be able to: Run a rapid, AI-assisted needs analysis that tells a true performance gap apart from an environmental one, and write measurable objectives that constrain what the AI produces.  Turn a messy transcript, raw PDF, or unstructured interview into a clear, well-framed prompt using the Intake Canvas.  Build prompts that carry real instructional design (Gagne, Merrill, Action Mapping) so the AI produces scenarios, quiz questions, and microlearning that meet a defined standard.  Score AI-generated content against a 5-Dimension Rubric spanning instructional alignment, cognitive load, compliance and accuracy, inclusion, and tone of voice.  Spot and fix the failures AI reliably produces—invented regulations, over-simple assessments, giveaway quiz answers, and narrow scenarios—and rewrite the affected content to standard.  Run a word-for-word fact-check, confirming names, numbers, versions, and processes against trusted sources, and keep a Verification Log.  Measure and cut filler, working backward from a specific performance failure rather than starting from a topic.  Redesign a production workflow so AI sits at the right points and clear sign-off gates protect quality before anything is deployed.

The examples and practice activities are especially relevant to instructional designers and content developers; L&D managers, directors, and CLOs; and SMEs and QA specialists who are responsible for the quality of AI-assisted learning content. You’ll get the most from the experience if you already use at least one LLM to gain useful output, can recognize a basic instructional design framework (ADDIE, SAM, Bloom’s, or Gagne), tell an objective from an activity, and have reviewed or edited learning content before—even informally. Newcomers to AI are welcome; a short optional primer is provided beforehand to help close any gaps. The first session brings everyone to a shared starting point before building begins. This workshop shows how to review content with an AI quality-check toolkit that follows a human–AI–human model. The process begins with human expertise, clear prompts and rules, and verified source and background materials. During the workshop, you’ll practice serving as a QA specialist for AI-generated content by using a rubric, documenting findings, determining appropriate next steps, and connecting your work to broader AI governance and policy considerations.

This QA model provides a framework for combining human oversight with the speed and efficiency of AI in creating learning content.  In her article, “The New L&D Bottleneck: Why AI Quality Assurance Is Your Most Critical Capability,” Debbie Richards explains, “In an H-AI-H model, the human designer sets the target, curates the raw source material, and writes the prompts. The AI occupies only the middle layer of the workflow, acting as an engine of translation and speed. Then, the process immediately loops back to the human designer, who acts as the editor, fact-checker, and final arbiter of quality.” True quality assurance in an AI-assisted workflow is baked into this loop as a repeatable system.
