Tips for Keeping Remote Workers Engaged

Monday, October 26, 2020

According to recent research, 68 percent of employees are either disengaged at work or actively disengaged. This means that it’s likely that more than half of any given workforce isn’t giving it their all. While engagement numbers initially spiked during the onset of the global health crisis, they have since tanked as the pandemic drags on into the fall. It can be challenging to promote engagement even during normal circumstances, so it’s understandably daunting for managers tasked with engaging their employees who are working remotely under lockdown orders. One of the best things leaders can do during these uncertain times is to place a priority on community. Make sure your virtual “door” is open, and make sure that channels of communication are clear. Collaborative work platforms can help in this effort, as can setting up message boards or topic channels where employees can discuss various topics. Check in regularly with employees for pulse-check reviews. Focus not only on their performance at work but their situation as a person. Be empathetic to their challenges both personally and professionally, and focus on promoting overall well-being.
