Gamified Learning Increases Engagement and Retention

Wednesday, April 8, 2020

One of the biggest downsides to traditional classroom training is that it can be dry. If employees aren’t engaged with the material, it’s much less likely to stick and far less likely to change their behaviors in the long-term, which is why many organizations have been seeking to gamify their training experiences. By turning training into on-demand “games,” employees can play on-demand—even adding a friendly element of competition to them. Employees are far more likely to remain engaged with gamified learning, and the training is far more likely to have an impact. Additionally, gamified learning can be applied across nearly every business function, from marketing and sales to compliance and safety. It’s appealing intergenerationally and across demographics, particularly if a social element is added to the game. People have a natural desire to compete, and this drive is leveraged by gamified learning. When done correctly, these gamified learning experiences will increase collaboration in the workforce and retention in the individual employee.
