Managers Need to Support Proactive Healthcare for Employees

Wednesday, December 12, 2018

Technology has blurred the boundaries between our personal and professional lives. Research shows Americans spend more than 50 percent of their workday on email, and most people can’t go more than 12 minutes without checking their phones. This is not good for our health, and most workers have felt some level of burnout in their careers. Just like an athlete needs to give their body time to rest between practices and games, employees need to take time to disconnect. It’s also important for managers to prioritize this, and encourage a healthy work-life balance for their employees. Help employees build in moments of rest and self-care throughout their days—tell them to take a walk outside, grab a cup of coffee, or get a bite to eat. Managers need to take a more holistic, proactive view of their employees' health, prioritizing preventative care. Company leaders have an opportunity to support the health of their workforces, and doing so will ultimately preserve the health of their business.
